As we turned to head back north toward Alliance, the weather got dramatically worse (this was the good weather here). The “dust storm” got progressively darker and darker. After about 30 minutes of dust we finally got to the outskirts of Alliance and saw the sheriff’s car with its lights flashing. When I entered the lobby of the hotel everyone was gathered there since it was the tornado shelter. (“Ah Virginia – you need to come in, RIGHT NOW!!”) The tornado was confirmed on the ground about 4 miles west but never hit us. In hindsight, all the dust should have been a tip off, and maybe it might have been smart to dump the CDs in favor of a local radio station. Guess I was given a chance to live and learn.
